Inaugural Issue Editorial

Engineering and Sustainability Journal: Advancing Knowledge for a Sustainable Future

It is with great pleasure that we present the inaugural issue of the Engineering and Sustainability Journal (ESJ), a peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal dedicated to advancing engineering, technology, and sustainability research. ESJ was established to disseminate high-quality, interdisciplinary studies that address the major challenges of the twenty-first century, including climate change, energy transition, environmental protection, industrial innovation, and sustainable development. The journal also seeks to strengthen scientific collaboration by providing an inclusive platform where researchers, engineers, policymakers, and industry professionals can exchange knowledge and share innovative solutions with regional relevance and global impact, contributing to scientific progress in Angola, Africa, and beyond.

This inaugural issue reflects the multidisciplinary mission of ESJ through six original articles covering renewable energy, industrial safety, process optimization, environmental protection, maritime governance, and sustainable agriculture. The published studies examine biomass conversion into biofuels, fire prevention technologies for industrial systems, optimization of lubricant production processes, the environmental and health impacts of microplastics, institutional challenges in maritime spatial planning, and the extraction of humic and fulvic acids for agricultural biostimulants. Collectively, these contributions demonstrate how engineering research can generate practical, evidence-based solutions that improve industrial performance, protect natural resources, strengthen governance, and promote sustainable development.

The launch of ESJ marks the beginning of a long-term commitment to scientific excellence, editorial integrity, and international collaboration. We sincerely thank our authors, reviewers, editorial board members, and partners whose dedication has made this inaugural issue possible. As the journal grows, we aspire to establish ESJ as a respected international reference in engineering and sustainability, publishing impactful research that supports the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We warmly invite researchers and professionals worldwide to contribute their work and join us in advancing knowledge for a more innovative, sustainable, and resilient future.
